Accurate diagnosis depends on the accurate interpretation of presented symptoms, and test results. Unfortunately healthcare professionals do get it wrong and sadly when this happens it can have tragic consequences.
Misdiagnosis can happen in an array of circumstances and there is not an exclusive list of conditions when this can happen. However in our experience, the most commonly reported conditions which are misdiagnosed are as follows:
Similarly the situations in which misdiagnosis can happen also vary. The firm receive enquiries involving misdiagnosis within a wide range of clinical settings, including Accident & Emergency, GPs, Private Hospitals, through delayed referrals and follow-up, military and police healthcare and treatment received overseas.
Misdiagnosis claims
Misdiagnosis claims can also include situations whereby the condition has been detected but the severity has not been realised. In these situations clients have been deprived of the appropriate dosage of medicine and treatment.
There are also situations whereby patients are diagnosed with suffering from a particular condition/disease which they do not have. Sometimes the drugs and treatments provided for conditions such as cancers, epilepsy and coronary related conditions can have ill-fated affects on a patient. Patients can also suffer immense stress coming to terms with a life-threatening condition that they wrongly believe they have.
Sadly there are also occasions where people die as a result of misdiagnosis. We can represent clients at inquests and help seek answers to causes of death.
