Public Guardianship Office (Court of Protection)

We just wanted to say thank you. We will never be able to repay you or express how grateful we are to you for all the support and help. There would have been no one in the world that we would have had in preference to you to act for us.

John, Newcastle Upon Tyne

When a person loses their ability to handle their own finances as a result of a traumatic brain injury it is a very serious matter and the Public Guardianship office and a Receiver of that person's money and property become involved in order to protect that person and ensure the monies are invested and 'spent wisely'.

To take away the rights of a person to handle their own financial affairs, deal with their own money, deal with legal matters, is a very serious decision and it is vital that the correct medical evidence is obtained.

We ensure that we do all we can to put the clients interests first. If they do have difficulties and are vulnerable and open to exploitation in dealing with their own finances and property then we will consider the views of friends, relatives and medical experts to ensure that our clients who have sustained brain injury are protected and their integrity and independence preserved. As far as possible we want them to have the ability to deal with their finances.

We ensure that we together with medical experts we advise our client and their families and explain how serious an issue this is. We do all we can to ensure our clients wishes and their needs are met to guarantee that their compensation monies are protected and their life time needs met.
