Thank you very much for all you did for us. Our lives are so much better through your help.
Barry, Doncaster
A WOMAN whose "fighting spirit" helped her walk again after a road crash, won more than 3m damages.
Rebecca Colpitts, now 22, was struck down by a passing car, in Bromley, in September 1989, while crossing the road, the High Court heard on May 13.
Rebecca, who was nine at the time confounded medical opinion to walk again in the years after the crash.
She has been awarded 3,150,000.
Justice Leveson praised Rebecca's courage and determination in tackling the long-term mental and physical disabilities. He also praised her mother, Joanne, of Royston Avenue, in Wallington, for her devotion to Rebecca's "care and well-being".
Michael Turner, Personal Injury Expert at Alexander Harris Solicitors said:
"Rebecca is a very brave young lady. She has proved many experts wrong with her ability to walk again."
"The compensation will be essential for her future care and standard of living. Although the sum many seem like a large amount, Rebecca will have to make many adjustments to the house, car and other essential every day living requirements many of us take for granted."
Rebecca's mother did her best to support her while working and coping with the break-up of her marriage, the court heard. She sought damages from the driver of the car, Christina Harris, of Beckenham, whose motor insurers did not dispute liability.
