British police are expected to investigate the death of a 2-year-old who was killed by an out of control speedboat in the Bahamas.

Paul Gallagher from Orpington, Kent suffered fatal head injuries whilst on holiday with his family at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in August 2002. The boat crashed onto the beach outside the family's hotel, ploughed through holidaymakers and the propeller of the boat struck Paul's head as he slept on a sunlounger.

A coroner at the British inquest into Paul's death recorded an 'open verdict' in October 2004. The verdict was very significant for the family after an inquest in the Bahamas in June 2003 concluded Paul died accidentally.

Paul's family are distraught that no one has been held accountable for Paul's death and have been in talks with the British Foreign Office to urge a full investigation.

The Bahamian Minister of Foreign Affairs agreed to accept a visit by the British police to look at the case.
