Fall from ladders
After one of their workers fell from a ladder and fracturing his skull, motor company Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK ltd pleaded guilty yesterday in Derby Magistrates Court to breaches of the health and safety at work regulations.

Paul Gale was helping a colleague fixing metal (unistrut) sections to a gantry, both were on step ladders, when Mr Gale's colleague fell and knocked Mr Gale to the floor.
As a result from the accident Mr Gale fractured his skull, his vertebra, wrist, dislocated a finger, fractured several ribs and suffered severe bruising
The company were fined £25,000 the maximum permitted penalty, and ordered to pay costs.
Louise Morgan, Associate with national law firm Irwin Mitchell who represents Mr Gale said: "The Work at Height Regulations make it clear that working from ladders should be avoided where possible because of the serious risks of falls from height. This is one of the most common types of accident which workers suffer."
