Mother sues NHS after failed termination
01/01/2000
Thank you to everyone involved in my case. I never dreamed of such an outcome and you have made such a long and difficult case seem easy and bearable.
Nigel, Derbyshire
In one of the first cases of its kind, a mother is suing the NHS for a failed abortion. The lady underwent a termination after learning that she was carrying twins, but eight months later found out that she was still carrying one of the babies. She is suing the NHS trust for "loss, injury and damage" suffered as a result of the failed termination.
Another lady won £10 000 compensation in an out of court settlement in 2001 after one of her twins survived an abortion that was carried out privately.
