Hospital Deaths Probe

14/07/2004

May I thank you for the way my accident claim has been handled, after my accident my confidence was very low indeed but the sympathetic handling of my case restored my confidence.

John, Sheffield

A second nurse has been arrested by detectives investigating a number of deaths at a West Yorkshire hospital.

POLICE are investigating eight suspicious deaths at Airedale General Hospital, West Yorkshire.

Police were called in after hospital officials became suspicious about the death of a woman aged 96.

Three senior members of the nursing staff have been suspended in connection with the inquiry.

They include one who was arrested and quizzed over doses of morphine.

A spokesperson for Alexander Harris said:

"I am dismayed to again hear about a further investigation into suspicious deaths in hospital which is alleged to be related to the overdosing of patients. Since our involvement with a number of enquiries and hospital investigations we have been receiving calls from relatives worried that the care of their loved one was not as it should have been particularly where large doses of drugs are being used."
