Northumberland man paralysed while playing rugby
Ali Johnson, the Northumberland man who was paralysed while playing rugby for his local team Tynedale, is appealing for video footage of the match.
Broke Neck Playing Rugby
Ali, 26, from Coanwood, near Haltwhistle in Northumberland, broke his neck and is now confined to a wheelchair following the fixture between Tynedale and Lancashire side Fylde on Saturday 25th September 2004.
The injury occurred when a scrum collapsed near the Flyde line in the 52nd minute. The game was immediately abandoned and Ali was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital in Lancashire.
Ali is well known throughout the region and across the rugby community for his courage and determination following the injury. The Ali Johnson Trust was also set up which has raised over £250,000 through charity events and donations.
