Decision on Gynaecologist's fitness to practice is delayed

26/08/2005

Thank you very much for all your hard work, especially as the outcome is better than expected. Can't thank you enough.

Shana, Wiltshire

Decision on whether the gynaecologist Andrew Gbinigie is fit to practice has been postponed.

Patients are angry that the GMC hearing, that was expected to conclude today, has been re-scheduled for December this year at the earliest.

"We are extremely disappointed at the postponement, especially as it came the day before a decision was expected. It has taken more than two years to reach the GMC's panel hearing - clients have built themselves up for it only to be let down. One of the main concerns of our clients is that Andrew Gbinigie will continue to work until the GMC reach a decision," said solicitor Louise Forsyth.

Alexander Harris submitted complaints on behalf of women who were treated by Gbinigie. Fifteen complaints are to be taken into account by the GMC's panel - they range from a failed sterilisation to women suffering extreme pain following hysterectomies.'
