Cerebral Palsy case - compensation for hospital negligence

01/01/2000

May I thank you for the way my accident claim has been handled, after my accident my confidence was very low indeed but the sympathetic handling of my case restored my confidence.

John, Sheffield

Mary was starved of oxygen at birth after the hospital failed to monitor her heart rate and give the appropriate care. Mary has severe cerebral palsy.

Involuntary muscle spasms are part of Mary's daily life and she can only stand with support. She has hearing difficulties, and relies on facial expressions and the use of a symbol board to communicate all her needs.

Mary suffers from epilepsy and takes a cocktail of drugs every day to help to control her symptoms. She is doubly incontinent, and has to be fed through a feeding tube.

Clinical Negligence solicitor Francesa Dowse settled Mary's case. She said "Mary is fully dependent on her parents for all her care needs. She requires twenty-four hour care for the rest of her life and this settlement will help to provide for her. It will also be used to make all the necessary adaptations to her home."
