Boy injured after doctor gave potentially fatal overdose
24/08/2006
Thank you very much for the brilliant service, professionalism and caring attitude whilst handling my recent claim.
Vicki, Sheffield
A baby boy was left seriously injured after being mistreated by a doctor. He was given a potentially fatal overdose of a drug.
The boy was taken to hospital after suffering from stomach pains.
But during a routine procedure the doctor injected the baby with three times the recommended dose of a drug.
The doctor may be referred to the General Medical Council.
The doctor injected hyoscine hydrobromide instead of the muscle relaxant he was supposed to.
After the operation the boy suffered from a number of adverse symptoms.
He was in a fixed trance and pupils were dilated.
He also had a very high temperature and fast pulse, was shaking and was very red.
Consultants said they could not tell what the long-term side effects of the overdose might be.
There is currently an on-going investigation into the doctor.
