Woman in need of surgery after accident at work

A solicitor has called for employers to take their health and safety commitments seriously after a Sheffield woman successfully claimed £4,000 in compensation after who fell into a metal shelving unit whilst at work.
Linzi Hall, 30, required surgery after bring left with a broken nose and breathing difficulties as a result of the accident at MKM Building Supplies Ltd, where she was employed as an office administrator.
After admitting liability, the company’s insurers reached an out of court settlement of £4,000 with industrial accident solicitors from leading firm Irwin Mitchell, who were representing Miss Hall.
Miss Hall was restocking a shelf on the premises when the accident happened. A cleaner had mopped the floor behind Miss Hall without her realising and when she moved her chair onto the wet floor, it caused her to fall into the shelving unit and bang her face violently on the hard surface.
As a result of the accident at work, Linzi suffered a broken nose as well as cuts and bruises to her face. The hospital staff glued her cuts and attempted to manipulate her nose, but she ultimately required surgery to relieve her respiratory problems and straighten her nose. Miss Hall had to wait for 9 months to have the operation.
Louise Morgan, a specialist Work Accident lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, said “Our client sustained a nasty injury that caused her to have breathing problems, as well as the cosmetic damage to her nose. It would have been avoided had the cleaner simply warned Linzi that she was mopping the floor behind her.
“This case perfectly highlights the need for businesses to ensure that health and safety procedures are followed to prevent incidents such as this from occurring.”
