Woman Injured Following Fall in Shopping Centre
12/01/2012
Our client Sarah, has been awarded £2,675 in compensation after she slipped and banged her head on a puddle whilst visiting a shopping centre.
Sarah was visiting the shopping centre in Grimsby, South Humberside on 6 October 2009 when she slipped on a pool of water that had been left on the floor and fell backward and hit the floor. Sarah reported the accident officially to the shopping complex and following the accident she visited her GP due the lower back and neck pain she was experiencing.
Sarah instructed Irwin Mitchell’s Public Liability Team to investigate the claim on her behalf. The Grimsby shopping complex denied responsibility and claimed that the cleaning contractors were responsible for both cleaning and checking the shopping centre.
Although the cleaning company also denied accountability, we managed to obtain an independent witness statement which led to the cleaning company offering Sarah £2,675 in compensation.
Katrina Elsey who dealt with Sarah’s case said “Thankfully, following the accident, Sarah has made a good recovery. However, in this case the cleaning contractors failed to enforce an adequate system of cleaning and inspection of the shopping complex but instead left the water unattended upon the floor which resulted in our client’s accident. Had a proper inspection and cleaning regime been implemented than the accident could have been avoided.”
