A Health Worker who was forced out of her Job has won it back

A 66 year old health worker who was forced out of her job a day before new age discrimination regulations came into force has won it back.
Sacked because of age
Ann Southcott, from Cornwall, was sacked from her job as a clerical worker at Treliske Hospital, Truro, on September 30, just one day before the Employment Equality Regulations were introduced.
Age discrimination regulations
Ann was told she would receive 11 weeks pay, but under the new regulations she would have been entitled to 11 months.
Unison took up the case and the trust agreed to give Mrs Southcott her job back along with back pay from last October.
General secretary Dave Prentis believes that Ann Southcott was dismissed due to the debt crisis at the Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust.
He feels that this will give hope to those people who have lost their jobs because of their age.
Mrs Southcott found it grossly unfair to be sacked just on account of her age. She could not afford to give up work and did not want to leave a job which she loved. She is now looking forward to beginning her new job in the therapies department.
