Pharmaceutical Firm Fined Over Dermatitis
30/12/2010
A pharmaceutical company based in Wiltshire has been fined £50,000 after at least ten employees developed allergic contact dermatitis.
The workers at Catalent UK Swindon Zydis Limited are thought to have developed dermatitis after being exposed to Olanzapine, a substance known to cause dermatitis.
The firm had not carried out a risk assessment on the substance, despite the fact it had been linked to previous dermatitis cases at the firm.
Catalent UK Swindon Zydis Limited admitted four charges under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH). It also admitted one charge under Section 2(1) of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
The firm was ordered to pay more than £50,000 in costs, as well as the fine.
