We just wanted to say thank you. We will never be able to repay you or express how grateful we are to you for all the support and help. There would have been no one in the world that we would have had in preference to you to act for us.
John, Newcastle Upon Tyne
A number of people on a Christmas Cruise on the P&O Aurora cruise ship had their holidays ruined after catching norovirus on board.
The Canaries Carousel cruise which left Southampton on 18 December to return on the 27th, visited Vigo in Spain, Lanzarote and Tenerife in the Canary Islands, and finished up in Madeira.
"It was dreadful - my three year old daughter was violently ill and half of us were affected to some degree.
"It completely ruined a much looked forward to holiday for a family of twelve. We were confined to our cabins from Christmas Eve to the end of the holiday. In total the holiday cost us almost £20, 000.
"P&O have offered us money off another cruise which is ridiculous. I would never go on another cruise with P & O again," said Lydia Ellis from Iver Heath in Buckinghamshire.
The cruise included several elderly passengers. A hundred people are believed to have been affected or in contact with someone who was affected by the norovirus. Two people were admitted to hospital on board.
Norovirus is a stomach bug which breeds on ships and places where people are confined to close spaces. Side effects include sickness, diarrhoea and stomach cramps.
Specialist injury and illness overseas solicitor Simon Taylor who acts for over 1000 people affected by the cryptosporidium bug in Majorca in 2003 said:
"Norovirus is extremely unpleasant. People who suffered from the bug on the Aurora Cruise may be entitled to compensation, and should seek specialist legal advice."
