Maternity failings at Royal Cornwall Hospital result in baby death
11/08/2006
Thank you to everyone involved in my case. I never dreamed of such an outcome and you have made such a long and difficult case seem easy and bearable.
Nigel, Derbyshire
An Inquest is being held after a baby who was delivered by Caesarean section died a few hours after being delivered.
The baby was born at Royal Cornwall Hospital.
The Coroner has retired to consider his verdict.
Evidence has centred on the maternity unit at the time of her death.
The family believe that the baby's death was caused because of systematic failures at the hospital.
Coroner Andrew Walker listened to the last legal arguments of the hearing from all parties before adjourning the proceedings in Truro earlier this week.
Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust argued that a subsequent independent inquiry into her death had found there was no need for major changes at the hospital and that the inquiry had made a number of recommendations for improvements which had been acted on.
