Man sustains spinal injury after diving from cliff
16/08/2006
May I thank you for the way my accident claim has been handled, after my accident my confidence was very low indeed but the sympathetic handling of my case restored my confidence.
John, Sheffield
A young man was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after jumping off a 40ft cliff in Treyarnon, north Cornwall.
He was on holiday when he had the accident. He was taking part in a hobby called 'tombstoning', which involves diving into water from a significant height.
He landed in the water, and a lifeboat was called. He then developed breathing problems.
Lifeguards became concerned by his symptoms, believing that he may have had a spinal injury.
He was then flown to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske.
