Organisational change for infection protection - The Hammersmith organisational model for infection prevention (HOMIP) was developed to reduce the number of infections in hospitals.
After a year, in Hospitals in Hammersmith HOMIP is producing impressive results.
MRSA has been reduced by 35 per cent. This is the second biggest reduction of all specialist trusts in the country.
There have also been significant reductions in other infections.
General managers and clinical directors have direct responsibility for infection prevention.
Performance management will soon be extended to the non-clinical directorates and infection prevention is being integrated into consultant appraisals and leadership training for managers.
