Fireman Recovering Well One Year After Burns Horror

29/05/2009

Fireman Grant Baugh is said to be making strong progress just one year after suffering 15% burns to his body following an industrial accident whilst answering a 999 call.

The 29-year-old spent one month in Pinderfields Specialist Burns Unit in Wakefield after being admitted in February last year, undergoing skin grafts to his arms and torso.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority admitted liability for the Mr Baugh’s injuries, which occurred on a routine 999 call in 2008. Mr Baugh has since instructed solicitors at Irwin Mitchell to pursue a work related injury claim for compensation.

"Grant is making good progress after what has been an extremely painful and traumatic year,” said his solicitor, Lisa Fairclough from Irwin Mitchell.

"He continues to receive treatment for his injuries including regular physiotherapy and deep tissue massages, as well as wearing pressure garments to aide with his recovery. Despite returning to work for the fire service he has not yet been able to return to full operational fire duties.

"We are in the process of pursuing a legal claim on Grant's behalf following an admission of liability from the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority. Legal proceedings will be issued in due course."
