Cycle accidents - specialist cycle accident solicitors urge cyclists to get specialist legal insurance

Irwin Mitchell, specialist cycle accident solicitors today urged cyclists to ensure they had adequate legal insurance in case of a cycle accident.
According to research by the Cyclists Tourists Club (CTC) only 2% of the five million adults who regularly cycle have the adequate cover from a specialist insurance policy.
The CTC warned that cyclists faced legal claims for compensation if they were involved in an accident.
David Standard, former captain Great Britain Cycling team captain said:
"After a very serious cycle accident involving a head on collision with a car when I suffered serious injuries including a broken leg, a broken jaw in five places, a broken arm, and required forty stitches in my face, I would have been liable for the thousands of pounds worth of compensation had I not had specialist cycling insurance."
Following the accident David spent four weeks in hospital, and was in rehabilitation for four months.
David, who also lost his father in a fatal cycling road accident, continued:
"Cyclists need the security and peace of mind that these specialist policies provide. The significant legal costs and potential compensation claims, both against them and on their behalf, can be covered securely with these policies and I recommend for all cyclists to get the adequate cover they need as road users."
