Child Left With Permanent Scarring Following Dog Attack
12/01/2012
Our client Jason, has been awarded £5,750, after a neighbour’s dog attacked and left him with permanent facial scarring.
Jason, who was a minor at the time the attack took place, was playing in a neighbour’s garden along with other children and the dog 27 July 2007. Despite Jason being present, the dog was running freely around the garden and when Jason bent down to try to pick something up, without warning the dog lunged and bit Jason’s face.
Jason was rushed to hospital where the wounds were cleaned and stitched, however the incident has left Jason with permanent facial scaring.
The owner of the dog admitted liability for the incident and with the help of Irwin Mitchell’s Public Law Liability Team, Jason reached a settlement of £5,750. The decision was reached at an approval hearing at Court where damages were agreed between the parties involved..
Katrina Elsey dealt with Jason’s case said “This case demonstrates that dog owners need to ensure that they remain responsible for their pets when visitors come to their property. Dog attacks have devastating effects to individuals and as can be seen from this case. Unfortunately, dog bite victims are often left with permanent scarring.”
