Barry, Doncaster
John New, 59, visited hospital complaining of a painful ankle and died four months later after contracting MRSA.
Deep vein thrombosis
Mr New, of Wistaston, was prescribe Warfarin to treat deep vein thrombosis in April 2006 and ended up spending three weeks in hospital after he contracted pneumonia.
Shortly after his discharge from Leighton hospital, he was re-admitted with severe abdominal pain and this led to his face swelling to twice its normal size and his body erupting in blisters. These blisters soon became infected with MRSA five days before his death.
Infected with MRSA
Dr John McKay said that he had never seen anything quite as serious before. He believed that Mr New had a sever reaction to some medication which was prescribed to him and on top of the infection, it proved too much.
Deputy Coroner for Cheshire, Janet Napier recorded a narrative verdict of multi-organ failure and septicaemia MRSA following on from pneumonia and generalised allergic reaction.
