Road traffic accident victim received £3 million pound settlement after spinal injury

A former Birmingham resident has received a £3m settlement after being severely injured in a road traffic accident.

Our client was travelling in the rear seat of a vehicle that was being driven by her friend when he lost control of the vehicle on a bend. The car struck a bridge and an oncoming vehicle and our client suffered a serious spinal injury.

She was initially treated at a specialist unit in Glasgow, but later returned to her family in Hong Kong on a medically supported flight.

Despite there being complex legal issues, as our client wasn’t wearing a seat belt, she was eventually awarded a £3m settlement.

Stephen Nye, a partner at our Birmingham office handled the case and commented;

"This was an unusual case in many respects, the accident being outside of the jurisdiction and my client being on the other side of the world. Whilst this presented additional challenges, we were able to draw together a multinational legal team, including experts from Australia, to assist our client and achieve such a positive outcome. The settlement, which is approximately $HK37 million, will ensure that our client has the means to access the care, therapy and equipment that she needs as a result of her injury".
