Successful Dog Bite Claim After Boy Attacked

Public liability solicitors at Irwin Mitchell successfully secured compensation for a seven year old boy after he was bitten by an out of control dog.

The boy was walking his dog with his father and brother on a footpath that runs adjacent to a local farm when, without warning, the loose dog approached our client and his dog.

As our client attempted to pull his dog away, the loose dog bit our client on the chest. The bite left a scar measuring approximately 8cm in the boy’s chest wall.

A dog bite claim was made against the farmer, who it later transpired was the owner of the dog, for allowing the dog to be out of control and loose within a public place. Liability was never admitted but the defendant’s insurers agreed to settle the dog bite claim. A sum of £2,500 was agreed and approved by the Sheffield County Court.

Katrina Elsey, a public liability solicitor from Irwin Mitchell who represented the boy and his family said: “Dog owners are urged to ensure that they do not allow their dogs to be out of control and loose within public places.”
