Brain Injury Claim Results in Compensation Settlement
A man who suffered from severe brain injuries following an attack by a taxi driver has been awarded half a million pounds in compensation.
Specialist solicitors from Irwin Mitchell making a brain injury claim for their client, Mike Reed, successfully secured the maximum possible payout from the government-funded criminal injury scheme.
Mr Reed was struck in the face by a taxi driver, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement, sustaining a fractured skull, a 9-inch laceration to his head and lesions to his brain. As a result of the attack, he now experiences speech difficulties and suffers from anxiety, as well as behavioural and cognitive problems.
His brain injury claim was initially turned down on the grounds that the evidence available was not sufficient to satisfy the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority that Mark’s injuries were ‘directly attributable to a crime of violence’. However, Deborah Kemp and Carolyn Heaton from Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office successfully fought for a review of the decision and secured the six figure settlement.
The compensation settlement will be used to fund Mr Reed’s ongoing care and rehabilitation.
