Head Injury Lawyer Secures £3.3m Compensation for Moped Accident Victim
Solicitors from Irwin Mitchell have successfully secured a compensation settlement worth £3.3m for a man who suffered a catastrophic head injury after being struck by a speeding car whilst on a moped.
Daniel, 21, was riding a moped whilst working for Domino’s Pizza when he was hit by a speeding car, leaving him with a severe head injury which has left him permanently brain damaged. Daniel was also left with a significant behavioural disorder and suffered multiple fractures including a left sided brachial plexus injury, resulting in permanent loss of use of his left arm.
After being discharged from hospital, Daniel initially returned to live with his parents but a lack of insight into his difficulties made it increasingly difficult for the family to manage. After approaching specialist road accident solicitors at Irwin Mitchell, the family were awarded a significant interim payment in order to set him up in his own home under the care of brain injury support workers and a case manager.
Prior to the accident, Daniel held ambitions of joining the Royal Marines and his road accident claim included payment for the loss of future earnings and pension, based on a 22 year military career. The compensation package also included costs for Daniel’s ongoing healthcare needs and rehabilitation.
Head injury lawyer, Geeta Nayar represented Daniel’s injury claim, which was approved at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on 28 March 2007. Geeta said that the damages would be “protected in trust for Daniel's long-term care”, which the Judge, Mr Justice Gray, said would involve “a substantial number of hours every day for the foreseeable future.”
