Chris' story - criminal assault in Australia

May I thank you for the way my accident claim has been handled, after my accident my confidence was very low indeed but the sympathetic handling of my case restored my confidence.

John, Sheffield

Chris was on holiday in Australia seeing friends. One evening Chris and his friends went to a bar to see a live band. Later in the night an altercation arose between Chris' group of friends and a group of bikers in the bar. This altercation eventually calmed down. Later in the night Chris and his friends decided to go home. Before leaving the bar, Chris went to the toilets alone.

Whilst in the toilet, he became aware that another man was in the toilet room. Chris was then assaulted. He was punched in the face and knocked to the ground where he was repeatedly punched and kicked. Chris made attempts to get up from the floor but each time he was knocked by down.

At one stage, Chris made it to the entrance door to the toilets but was pulled back inside and attacked further. Chris remembered that a bouncer had come into the toilets but turned around and walked out. Chris has since learnt from the local police that the bikers and bouncers are part of the same gang that owns the bar.

Chris eventually got out of the bar and an ambulance was called.

In the attack, Chris suffered bruising and swelling to his face, nose, back and shoulder. He also suffered a fracture to his right index finger with a spiral fracture through the knuckle. He is still unable to fully straighten his finger and whilst he has returned to work as a dentist, as the injury is to his dominant hand, he experiences some difficulties with certain procedures.

In the attack, his front tooth was also knocked out of the socket. Although this has been repositioned it is likely to cause him problems in the future. Chris has now become cautious when going out and is very wary of being alone in public bars.

Chris approached specialist criminal injury overseas solicitors Alexander Harris. The firm are representing Chris in his claim for compensation.
